The Supper is almost here...
Sunday, November 16, 2008 at 10:00AM
Our good friend Emily Tipps has printed these lovely invitations, and we're all prepping the farm to get ready for The Alabama Supper. Our menu has finalized and we're happy to offer the following seasonal gourmet meal, sourced entirely from Alabama providers:
1) A great big old pig, from Rosita's Farm in Hartselle, roasted in a hand-dug brick oven on site.In addition to eating all this wonderful food, you'll also be able to meet a lot of the farmers who've been feeding us these last seven months. They'll be there chowing down with us and dancing to some great bluegrass music. This week we were invited to speak at the Alabama Sustainable Agriculture Conference outside Andalusia, and while there, we were able to nab a wonderful young group of bluegrass musicians to come and play for you all. We're excited, and we hope you are too. Seats are filling up, so get your tickets today. You can get your ticket by donating $20 to Eating Alabama at the paypal link below. If you'd prefer to pay by check, send us an email at info(at)eatingalabama.org and we'll hook you up. But remember we will stop selling tickets on Thursday the 20th, and there's a good chance we'll sell out before then. So be sure to donate today, and we hope to see you all next Saturday!
2) BBQ sauce featuring Alabama apples, tomatoes, hot peppers, and various and sundry other goodies.
3) Sweet potatoes grown by Jimmy McAteer in Buhl, roasted with local herbs.
4) A salad of baby greens and pecans, courtesy BC Hunt farms, topped with goat cheese from Belle Chevre.
5) Heaping pots of kale, mustard, and turnip greens, offered leaded (cooked with pork) and unleaded (vegetarian) from our friends at Snow's Bend.
6) Alabama baguettes, baked by the good folks at Continental Bakery from wheat grown in Elmore County and ground by Oakview Granary.
7) European style apple crumble cake from the same Elmore County wheat and apples from Scotts Apple Orchard in Hazel Green, baked to perfection by Edelweiss Bakery in Tuscaloosa.
8) POPCORN! Grown by our friends at Birdsong Community Farm outside Cullman.
9) Apple Cider from Scotts Orchard - served warm to ward off the chill of the fall air.
10) Beer from Good People Brewing in Birmingham.
11) tentative...Bayou La Batre oysters, prepared low country style.
