Growing Alabama, Eating Alabama
Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at 10:07PM Here are some of the latest photos from our garden. I must say, Eating Alabama is quite a bit easier when summer is in full force and I can walk outside the door to pick our dinner. The energy expended to grow the vegetables is not always replenished by consuming them. Maybe I have only been conditioned to feel full with consumption of grains or white sugars. In spite of still being hungry at times, the taste of fresh vegetables is incredibly satifying and I find the thought of veggies bought at the grocery distinctly unappetizing.
Tonight's dinner was entirely from the farm with the exception of the Sweet Farm feta cheese: Eggs from the Henriettas cooked with our onions and tomatoes; potatoes roasted with dill seed; yellow squash and zucchini lightly sauteed with basil and garlic.
Cheers,
Sara

We played hookey last Sat. and missed getting our usual market delights. We bought some 'local' meat from Weaver St. and it wasn't half as good as Fickle Creek meat!! Yes, grocery store food has completely lost its appeal for us as well. Have you heard about bisphenol a? One more reason not to go with a can in the store!
